Dinner at the Firehouse

We had a special dinner at Firehouse 91. It was something my parents won at a dinner they attended and had decided to take the kids. The night it was suppose to happen, my dad couldn't get off work so I went instead.

When we arrived, we had time before dinner to play on the firetrucks. The fireman answered questions and let the kids climb all over.

We then went in and had spaghetti and meatballs with the firemen. At this firehouse there are 6 men (engines) on duty at all times. One of the engines had to take off twice and the kids got to watch the men get ready and take off. The 3 other firemen stayed and took the kids upstairs to look around. When they came down, one of the men offered to take the kids on a ride in the fire truck. They were all so excited!!!

We got them all strapped in, headsets on and everything.
They pulled out and the fireman driving turned to his left to look at traffic and...
SAW A FIRE!

That's right! A few blocks away a fire had started. He jumped out of the truck and ran inside.
While he was gone, we all just sort of stood around watching the smoke when we realized
'The kids are still in truck!'

We pulled them out as quickly as we could, (they all understood that something was going on and helped us). Right as we pulled them out, the firemen came running out with their gear. Both engine and truck had to go to the call.

We waved from the street as they left. The kids were excited to watch them go, even though the sirens were so loud that they had to covered their ears.

The only sad part about the whole evening is that I didn't get any pictures WITH the firemen! We had agreed to take pictures after dinner, so I didn't get any photos of them!
We had a great time and hope to take Thank you notes and cookies to them. Hopefully we will get some pictures then! We are so grateful to Grandma and Grandpa for this opportunity and to the firemen who made us the yummy dinner.
