Summer Hike

Every summer we go on a hike, or as I like to call it "a death march." This year we went to Hetch Hetchy damn with our friends the Howards.
View from the car. Yes It's the far falls, not the close one.

Ready to go!  Bree LOVED it.
Had a smile the whole time and waved at everyone who walked by.

The Beginning
So the hike started out nice and easy. We walked across the damn and through a tunnel. Then it was nice and flat.  A little ways in, everything changed...it was up and down and most of it was in the sun. As we got closer to the falls the terrain became more rough and steep, then dropped way way down.
The damn.

These two were AAAdorable!
They led the pack the entire time!

Down by the river. Ben loved that he wore his water shoes.

We Made It To The Falls!
Now someone call rescue to get me out of here.

Brent found a place where it was safe to get our feet wet.

Sharon and I.

The Howards!

All smiles right now. Again, I'm looking for the boat to take us back to our cars.

The two outdoorsmen.
The hike out was not as fun.  The first part was hiking back up the hundreds of stairs we came down, with little shade. Then back through the rough terrain until we finally hit the smooth, shady area and tunnel. We did make it, but it took about 3 hours to get out and Ben cried almost the entire way. My left foot was bothering me from my tendinitis. At one point Brent was carrying Bree, Ben and my backpack as I hobbled along. Sharon and I have convinced ourselves that next year we will camp together and the boys can take the kids hiking while we read in our lounge chairs.

Quote of the moment

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of
everything. .... They just make the best of everything."
