So the past week Bree has been cutting teeth. She has been grumpy, runny nose, low fever, rubbing her gums, etc. She started having a little rumble in her chest, so we began giving her breathing treatments to help.
Ok, we have done teething before. No worries.
So over the weekend her fever spiked and her breathing became worse. We made it through the weekend on Motrin but decided to take her in just to make sure she was alright.
As soon as we get to the office, the Dr. implies that something is wrong. Bree's lips were a little blue and she was paler than what she should have been. Now I have had a baby with Meningitis and a different one with RSV. I wasn't freaking out yet.
She sent us to the ER after a nebulizer treatment in her office. Brent met me there and upon arriving we found out that her oxygen levels were too low. They gave her another breathing treatment and did an xray of her lungs. Sure enough, she had pneumonia on her right side. Because they were able to get her oxygen levels back up they let us take her home. She is now on three treatments a day, an antibiotic, and prednisone (liquid steroid).
Bree and I spend much of our day doing just this. Sitting in front of the computer. Her watching cartoons and me piddling around on the internet. She is getting really good at it and will wear the mask around her head now, leaving it alone during her 20 minute treatment. We hope that we can get this under control so that she won't have to endure the nebulizer so often, but we were told by the ER doc that she just may be one of those kids who needs to have one each night to keep the bad stuff at bay. We shall see.
