Thursday we woke up and took the kids to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It really was a GREAT zoo. It was built right up in the mountain and was a nice walk. The exhibits were really close and we got great views of the animals. The only down side was it started to rain about 3pm and we couldn't ride the sky ride like we had hoped because of the lightening (which was sooo cool!)
The Giraffe exhibit
The kids got to feed the giraffes crackers. We loved being so high and right next to them.
Baby mountain goats that were rescued.
An albino kangaroo that the kids got to pet.
The bird sanctuary.
The view from the zoo of Colorado Springs.
Enjoying a treat after lunch.
A hippo standing up! I had never seen one outside of the water. It was incredible.
The other great exhibits behind glass included the cougars (4), the gorillas where the silverback came right up to us and stared Ben in the face, the orangoutangs with their new baby, and the swinging monkeys. We were unable to see the Grizzly bear, tigers, and elephants because they weren't out. It was a great day anyway though and we all left happy. The kids all fell asleep on the way home back to our hotel, then a little while later we met up with my parents and my aunt and uncle for dinner at Outback.
